Bari - Voice

Bari is a freshman at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, studying to become a nurse, but her true dream is to be a famous musician. She has written and performed many pieces over the years and hopes to release her music soon. For Bari, music is a way to express herself and connect with others, and she wants her music to help people in the ways they need it most.

Bari has been involved in choir and theater since elementary school and has been singing since she could talk. She attended Northwest School of the Arts, a highly selective school where she majored in choir and theater, as well as William Amos Hough High School. At these schools, she studied music theory, participated in various choir classes, and created an a cappella club where she taught underclassmen.

Mentored by her choir teacher, Bari learned how to use her knowledge to educate others. She also worked overtime to help the choir thrive. She has performed at many competitions, was a featured soloist multiple times, and participated in numerous musicals. Bari also attended the Mars Hill Choir Festival, where she sang as a soprano, though her vocal range is broad. This prestigious festival, which selected only the best singers in the state, gave her the opportunity to perform and learn from some of North Carolina's most esteemed choir teachers. Additionally, Bari was offered a $25,000 scholarship to Mars Hill University. She has also attended All-County and various other choir events.

As a music teacher, Bari aspires to help students discover the messages within each piece of music. She believes that music is its own language, with each person interpreting it in their unique way. The meaning of a piece can vary from person to person, and this exploration can often be a cathartic process, leading to a personal connection with the music. For Bari, teaching and learning are about exploration, connection, experimentation, and questioning. She is committed to igniting her students' imagination and musical understanding, providing them with a space to fully express themselves and be who they are. The magic of teaching lies in watching ideas develop and guiding students each step of the way.

Together with her students, Bari explores a wide range of music genres, such as theater, choir, rock, jazz, classical, metal, and many more. Bari provides her students with the vocal techniques associated with each genre so that they may achieve the sound they desire. She believes it's essential for students to be influenced by a broad musical background, with no genre being off-limits. In each lesson, music skills like sight-reading, music theory, dynamics, accompaniment styles, transposition, and improvisation are woven in, allowing students to take their creativity and love of music in many directions. They also learn various singing techniques to help them sing to the best of their ability.

Beyond teaching voice, Bari helps her students become problem-solvers and independent learners as they find their own voices and develop their sense of self. She encourages students to take control of their musical education by asking questions and taking ownership of their interpretations. With experience teaching students aged 3 to 82 in both one-on-one and classroom settings, Bari finds the discovery of how music communicates and connects people to be wholly rewarding.

Bari believes that music is meant to be shared. Each year, she organizes a commemorative studio recital, giving her students a concrete goal, a sense of achievement, and a chance to experience the supportive, shared studio environment they help create.
